From walking group to Geezer Patrol
Anthony Munkholm, Fitness Specialist, has been leading walking groups with residents since March. In the beginning, they only did about .25 of a mile each time. They have a solid group of about three to five people, but at times have had as many as seven or eight. The core group of walkers who have been showing up every day Monday through Friday kept building up the mileage they walked. Some days they now go over two miles!
They have only a few different routes, so neighbors in the community have started talking, cheering, and coming out to smile at the walking group. One day when they were out walking, resident Lyn Lawyer yelled out to one of the neighbors that the Geezer patrol was out making sure everything in the neighborhood was safe. That name stuck! They have been calling themselves the Geezer Patrol ever since and they now have t-shirts they wear every Monday with pride.
